In the early morning hours of Monday, July 13, 2026, reports began to circulate on social media that an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agent was involved in a shooting in Biddeford, Maine. With subsequent live coverage from the media, crowds began to grow, leading to demonstrations, assaults and accusations. Sadly, rumors and theories began to circulate about the shooting, many of which proved false as the day grew on. Proverbs 18:13 reminds us that “He that answereth before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.” The correct response in this incident is to hold your peace and wait for the official investigation to be completed. Once that happens, we can expect a report from the investigators, maybe a grand jury inquiry, perhaps charges and possible trial by jury, before any finding of guilt can be reached. Foolishly, some have already declared guilt, when in America you are always innocent before being proven guilty in a court of law.
Now consider with me “another side of the coin”: Why do we have a problem with immigration? A Democratic President opened the borders of America and looked the other way when he was supposed to be enforcing immigration laws. Estimates are all over the board as to how many individuals have entered the United States illegally (perhaps fourteen million or more). If President Joe Biden had enforced the laws of the United States (which is the duty of the Chief Executive), we would not be in this mess today. It now takes a Republican President to clean up his mess.
Second, consider the role of the Governor of Maine, who supports sanctuary cities. Furthermore, she opposes law enforcement helping ICE. On top of this, the Biddeford Police Department offered no support to ICE before the shooting. These policies prepared the environment for this fatal shooting. Police tactics should include a multiple-agency approach to ensure that no damage to property or life occurs. However, this political interference into a police matter clearly caused damage. The politicians from the Federal, State and Local levels of government are not without blood on their hands in this matter.
As Sheriff of York County, my approach would be very different, including supporting ICE and working with Homeland Security and not against them. The goal is a clean arrest, so that no one will be killed or injured in the process. Furthermore, in all arrests, the subject(s) involved have a duty to submit to arrest and the public has a duty to assist and not hinder the police in such arrests.

I ask you to elect David Corbett as Sheriff for a new vision for the York County Sheriff’s office. Lastly, let us wait patiently for the investigation to be completed.
